Edward D. Silver military service collection, 1957-1964.

The Edward D. Silver Military Service Collection consists of materials assembled by Silver during his training and service in the U.S. Air Force. The collection includes patches, rank insignia, pilot wings, a Pilot Flight Record and Log Book, driver's licenses for travel in Saudia Arabia, an identification card booklet, an engraved plate, and a cloth ascot worn with a flight suit. The patches, numbering about 40 total, were worn on a flight suit and represented various Air Force squadrons and training units such as the Combat Crew Training Wing and the Air Force Fighter Weapons School. The collection also includes some biographical information about Silver.

Edward D. Silver enrolled at Oregon State College in 1952 and earned a BS in science from Oregon State College in 1957; he was enrolled in the Navy ROTC program at Oregon State. After graduation, Silver joined the U.S. Air Force and served as a pilot instructor at Vance Air Force Base and in Saudia Arabia.
